My workload is excessive and I am constantly stressed.
I don’t feel respected as a professional anymore.
I no longer have the freedom to be creative in my teaching – I can’t decide what or how I teach.
I am made to feel like I am under-performing. Nothing I do is ever enough.
I am frustrated at the lack of funding, resources and support available in schools that make it harder to do my job effectively.
Some of the things I am told to do conflict with my values.
I am unable to switch off from work.

Increasing numbers of fed-up teachers are leaving the teaching profession for a more balanced life . . .
. . . and you could be one of them!

A job with professional boundaries and expectations, defined hours and no working for free.
Work-free evenings and weekends to spend as you wish.
Able to take time for yourself and your family when needed (school events, hospital appointments, etc).
A civilised working environment with downtime during the day to reflect and plan.
The capacity to take care of your health – time to plan and prepare meals, take exercise, and sleep well.
Annual leave to suit you and your family’s needs (Weekday wedding? Long weekend away? Childcare issues? No problem!).
The possibility of flexible working, which may include term-time only contracts, flexi-time, and compressed hours.
Remembering who you really are beneath the teacher life that has consumed you…and needing to find new hobbies!

"I knew I needed to get out of teaching, but I felt overwhelmed by the thought of finding another job and I just didn’t know where to start.
Julia helped me to break everything down into manageable chunks and I soon began to make progress towards my goal, eventually being offered a job that meets all my needs.
I am now in my final weeks of teaching and really excited to start my new role out of teaching in September.
I am really grateful for the support as I know I wouldn’t have achieved this so quickly on my own.
Thank you!"

Primary Teacher
As soon as I made contact with Julia, I felt like a weight had been lifted and I started to feel optimistic about the future.

"As the main wage earner, I felt like I was stuck in teaching and could not find an alternative that would work around my family. After speaking to Julia about my predicament, we explored the options available to me and I started to think about private tuition, initially to run alongside my teaching job whilst I got established.
Julia was able to support me with the steps I needed to take to get set up, including the business side, such as terms and conditions, insurance, registering as a sole trader, etc; and then the more practical side of how to promote my business and finding clients, etc. The sessions encouraged me to work out what I wanted to do as well as supporting me to get started on my venture.
I was apprehensive at first because of the risk involved, but Julia helped me to see that I could take small steps towards growing my business, whilst keeping my salary coming in. I now have enough clients for September to justify me leaving my teaching role, less than six months after getting started!
If you are unsure of what you want your next role to be, I would recommend signing up for some sessions with Julia and she will help you to get clarity and start putting your plans into action!"

Once you book your initial one hour session, you will receive a welcome email and further details with the link for your Zoom call.
The first session is a chance to get to know you, to establish your current position, identify what it is you actually want to do (and how ready you are), explore options available, identify key priority areas and begin to create a plan to get you to your end goal. This is a lot to fit in, so it will be very much guided by you and your own wants and needs. Most people book a sequence of sessions to receive support throughout the journey, others book a single follow up session to provide a chance to review and reassess, but some people find that just having the one session is enough to get them started and able to continue alone.
It is up to you how you want the sessions to go, how much support you require and for how long.
The beauty of individual sessions is that the agenda is set by you, depending on your exact needs. For example, you may decide to book further sessions to help you work on developing your confidence and exploring any barriers, perhaps you need practical support around job or business ideas, or guidance and support with CV writing, job applications, or interview techniques.
Whatever it is, I can help you to get it done!
If you prefer to have a chat before committing to a session, to decide whether this is the route for you, please email me to arrange this at [email protected]

After a successful twenty-three-year career, which included several leadership and subject responsibility roles, I found myself becoming increasingly disillusioned with teaching.
Eventually, during a period of illness, aware that my workload had become unsustainable, I was forced to re-evaluate my life.
Although I had thought about leaving teaching for some time, I never really believed that I could make it happen. But once I made the decision to take action, I set about creating and working through a structured exit plan, which (cutting a long story short) eventually resulted in me being offered several jobs in a short space of time.
Within just a few months of making the decision, I was thriving in a new role outside of teaching, alongside running a successful business.
I began to be approached for advice and support by others who were hoping to leave teaching and I soon realised that many teachers wanted to do the same but didn’t know how, or simply lacked the confidence to believe they could (teaching seems to have a habit of doing this to teachers).
This is what led to the creation of my 'Free from Teaching' programme, the one I wish had been available when I started this journey myself, the one that would have saved me hours of research and planning and stopped me feeling like I was on my own.
I am grateful that I now have a life where family and leisure time fits comfortably around my work commitments, a life where weekends are free to spend as I choose, a life where going out on weekday evenings is now possible. In my spare time (yes, it really exists!) I enjoy walking, reading, cooking, holidays, and spending time with friends and family. I have not once looked back with regret.
I am passionate about helping teachers who feel trapped in their current jobs, to find their way out of teaching, on their own terms, and create a better work-life balance.
If it’s time to start putting yourself first, if you want to take back control of your career and design your future the way you want it to be, you are in the right place.
Whether you want to find a new career, set up your own business, or even if you don’t know what you want yet, I will help you to explore your options and develop the confidence and knowledge you need to take action towards a positive future.
